I was looking at the number of credits that a MechE degree requires and the number came out to be like 122. The total number of credits to get a degree from MSU are 128. That leaves me with only 6 extra credits to pursue a minor; however, most minors require 20-24 credits of classes in that subject matter. Based on this, is it very difficult to get a minor as an engineering major while graduating in 4 years? Or would I have to take like 18 credits of classes every semester in order to even have a shot at that? Am I missing something? Thanks!
From all of what I heard and what the college of engineering said themselves, no. Graduating in 4 years is a feat in itself, but adding a minor onto it? Yeah, I’m thinking that will not work out so well. Well, unless you work summers and commit yourself to like 18 credit hours starting freshmen year and continuing even when you get into the really time intensive upper level courses.
Here’s the college’s FAQ from which I got their opinion from:

Possible? Yes. Easy? No.
