I want to apply as an engineering major, which is a field I'm somewhat interested in. However, my essay indicates interests in writing and scientific research. My extracurriculars support these interests.

However, I'm currently undecided, and I've heard that it's difficult to transfer into engineering.

Is applying as an engineering major a problem, given the interests reflected in my essay?

My son didn’t even write about engineering, math, or science in his essay and he was accepted into Undeclared Engineering. I’m assuming it doesn’t matter…

Yeah, I’m aware that engineers can research. However, one of my essays discusses a specific interest in alternative medicine. I had a lab internship focused on acupuncture.

The evaluation focus for engineering majors is on the number and level of math and science courses completed (preferably above and beyond what is offered at your high school), grades in those courses, and standardized test scores in math and sciences. Extracurriculars are often secondary compared to your academic preparation in math and sciences.
