I just got an email from NU regarding the ISP (probably sent in bulk to all engineering/science students) even though I didn't check ISP in the NU supplement.

Anyway, I'm interested in Computer Science or Computer Engineering from McCormick as a primary major. I am planning to double major in math or physics as well. Should I apply for the ISP given my goals? Would I be going to McCormick or Weinberg as my primary school if accepted (as unlikely as it is)?

Also, I'm not quite sure how to fill up the form with coursework, because I studied abroad. My school education is certainly well above AP level though with regard to science and mathematics.

My son is in a similar situation. He is interested in engineering, in his case mechanical, but also likes the ISP curriculum. Probably the best advice on this comes from the FAQ section from the ISP website:

“It is often difficult for a student in high school to decide whether he or she should pursue a degree in engineering or one in science. This cannot be answered fully, but in general, those with greater interests in fundamental mechanisms or theory should consider science, and those with interests in applications and design may be best served in engineering.”

He plans to apply to ISP to keep his options open. Of course, as an RD applicant he still has to be accepted by the school. Hope this helps.

I checked off ISP on my Northwestern supplement but I did not get an e-mail. What could this mean? I sent in SAT Subject Tests for Math II, Physics, and Literature, so I do not have all the required Subject Tests. Additionally, I took those subject tests in January, so Northwestern only received them this week. Could this be the reason why I have not received an e-mail? Do they base it on whether or not I showed an interest in it? (which to be honest, I did not, I am very partial to the MENU program; I even wrote in my Why NU? essay that I would want to see the ISP office’s decisions before deciding which program I would participate in since I want to take the MENU 291 sequence, which you cannot do while in the ISP program.)
