I don't know whether to major in engineering or accounting.
i'm interested in both. i like chemical engineering or petroleum or maybe computer software or something im not sure.
which is a better? which pays more in the long run?

Both relatively stable as far as money goes.
Just pick which one you like more.

I thing accounting is much more dull than engineering. I suppose there are some creative aspects but it’s kind of like being the score keeper in a game rather than being on the field.

Also - see this long thread on accounting from the Business forum:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/business-major/511865-everything-you-wanted-know-should-know-about-accounting.html

No differential equations in Accounting :D

There better be if they want to understand compound interest…

I think the OP would be better with engineering. Accounting is saturated, there is too many people with accounting degrees

Engineering is quite saturated as well.
Too many people think of it as a path to a stable job, so a lot of people major in it.

Accounting is not a bad choice if you go to a school with good big 4 recruiting. Pay is generally 50-55k to start, so a bit lower than most engineers, but certainly not bad for a 22 year old.

pick the major which you like more.

Both our state flagships, including the one with a top 10 program in accounting, require only ‘Brief Calculus Survey I for Amoebas’ from their B-school inhabitants, except Economics BS.

Ironically, a friend’s kid is going for Actuarial Science and her math requirements are 2 classes on top of Diff Eq :(. But not accounting.

Everything is saturated. Go to a school where employers recruit, get a good GPA, and practice interviewing

If your brain works equally well with both majors, follow you heart - which one you like/enjoy more.

If you brain works better with one of them (math/sciences vs. counting money/related), follow your brain.

At the end, you have to get up in the morning and enjoy going to the type of work. However, when recession comes, an account can always hang a sign up peddling his tools of the trade better than engineers.

Engineering and the mathematical sciences are saturated with students who STARTED to major in these areas.

Actually walking across the stage with the Dean of Engineering/Mathematics/Computer Science HANDING you a degree is another story.

^You forgot physics as well, they really need more people. Also some engineering majors are not saturated. Accounting is way more saturated than eng. They are both good majors and you should first do the one you like the most, but If we are talking about salary and job security I think engineering wins

Try IOE. It should be a best fit for you.

Try it and choose which one you enjoy working.
