I am an industrial engineering major and was wondering if the business minor is really worth all the extra coursework.
What are your opinions on the minor?

It really depends what engineering degree and what you want to do … long term. I think if you want to run a business, etc - it could be helpful. I will also tell you - even walking in with a lot of credits - that engineering is tough at NC State. I’d focus on the first for two years or three semesters and then decide.
Minors don’t mean too much to an employer. If you have a engineering degree with lower than a 3.0 gpa, the only thing a minor means is that you took more than 4 years to graduate and needed some classes to raise your gpa and fill in spots because you had to retake engineering classes. If you are graduating in 4 years with any decent gpa, then a minor means you worked a bit harder than most, but it still doesn’t mean much.
Now an MBA from a good school a couple of years after you graduate means a lot. If you are really interested in business, than MBA is the route to go.
Well, I agree that a minor may not help you get a specific engineering job. It will help you be prepared to be promoted into more managerial and leadership positions - if that is what you want. Just a base of knowledge that will be helpful - if that is what you want to do. And Yes an MBA of any sort is a great match with an engineering degree.
