Engineering Math Question

Hey all, I'm attending Cornell Engineering next year. Last year I took AB Calc, got a 5, and this year I took Multivariable (I waived in because I didn't want to retake calc). I got an A in both classes, but apparantly I don't have the credentials to place out of Math 191. This is my question: I checked out the curriculum for 191 and I feel right at home with all the integrals and whatnot (though I could probably use a refresher with the tricky stuff), but the series and sequence stuff I really don't have much background in (besides studying it last summer to waive into multi). I'm considering taking the test to place out of 191 and I was wondering how difficult the class is and if it would be worth it to take it as a refresher/easy transition class (going from hs to college)/grade booster. I'm definitely not going to take the 192 test, my multi teacher taught us well, but I feel like the college material is drastically more difficult. Any input is appreciated!

Don't pass out. Very simple. Take 191 one and you'll get a great grade to boost your GPA. If you can't do power series, or limits, or need a refresher, then you aren't cut out. I thought I was good with this material too.

But then I took Math 192/293/294.

Now I feel like I will die alone a born again virgin.

I have direct experience with the multivariable part. I took it in high school, thought "hmm, at Cornell it's called 'Engineering Math', it must be different," and retook 192 (also as an "easy class/grade booster" I guess). If you're like me you will be bored out of your mind.

As for 191, one of my friends had to do that this year--191 first semester, 293 in spring. It's not a big deal to take it over again but if you can test out I'd suggest you do. By the way, the college of engineering has a great collection of advisors. E-mail them here: http://www.engineering.cornell.edu/student-services/academic-advising/index.cfm

You can always just take the optional math placement exam orientation week and see what it recommends. It's Cornell-specific.
