Engineering Math & Statistics vs Applied Math & Econ

I am currently enrolled as Engineering Undeclared at Berkeley’s CoE. I was wondering the pros and cons of the two tracks listed in the title. I don’t think I would pursue engineering as an overall career, but I would consider finance or data analytics, something math heavy. (I plan to apply to Berkeley’s Data Science program after I get my Bachelor’s, among others).

I would be able to finish EMS in three years, and Applied Math & Econ in 3.5. Is the value of an engineering degree significantly more valuable than that of an Applied Math degree? I would want to pair it with Economics because I am very interested in learning a lot about economics, but there is no minor and I really don’t think a simultaneous degree with Econ and engineering would be easily achievable.

https://career.berkeley.edu/Survey/2015Majors may give you an idea of what graduates of various majors do afterward.

However, engineering math/statistics is a small major and is aggregated with some other majors under engineering science.

Industrial engineering and operations research may also be of interest to you. So could statistics.

You do not have to take a second major in order to take some economics courses of interest.
