Engineering Mechanics

can any one shed some light on this major (engineering mechanics) how does it compare to the mechanical engineering

I'm asking b/c UIUC is only one of few universities that offers this major, I'm not sure which one I should chose. Mechanical engineering or engineering mechanics

Go here to compare:

For Engineering Mechanics:
http://courses.uiuc.edu/cis/programs/urbana/2005/spring/undergrad/engin/engin_mech.html

For Mechanical Engineering:
http://courses.uiuc.edu/cis/programs/urbana/2005/spring/undergrad/engin/mech_engin.html

The former is more research oriented and more general engineering oriented than the latter and with Engineering Mechanics you need to take more advanced math courses and you can end up with a choice of "senior field elections" where you might choose applied math, biomechanics, materials engineering, or things closer to mechanical engineering. Engineering Mechanics is considered the more difficult curriculum to get through of the two.
