I took a long break from college to serve in the military and am planning on getting out and going back to school. I have an A.A. in business and about another semester or two of more business classes, but in my time away from college I've come to think that I really want an engineering education.

My friends are all telling me to not throw away all my time working toward a business degree and just take the last semester or two needed and fill the electives with math/science if I need to and then try and apply to a engineering grad school.

You’ll be extremely hard pressed to find an engineering graduate school that will admit you with a BA. And even if a school does admit you, they’ll almost certainly award an undesignated MS (i.e. a Master of Science instead of a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or another type of engineering). That wouldn’t be an engineering degree.

I was thinking of a plan like this, but at other schools.

Do you have a bachelor’s degree in the Liberal Arts, Business, Fine Arts, or Education? You can earn a Master’s Degree in Biomedical, Computer Systems, Electrical, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical, Photonics, Manufacturing or Systems Engineering through the Late Entry Accelerated Program at Boston University

For over 25 years, LEAP at Boston University has enabled non-traditional students and working professionals to obtain graduate degrees in engineering. As a LEAP student, you’ll first be brought up to parity by taking a core set of undergraduate engineering courses. You’ll then enter a regular Master’s Degree program in one of eight engineering fields.
