I am a prospective student to UIUC engineering. Would this be a good weekend to visit the campus? I obviously plan on visiting sometime, but would this be the best time? From previous experience, is the event worth a 4-5 hour drive?

coco222, When my son and I flew out to visit UIUC (from the West Coast), we chose a Blue and Orange day. This gave us the opportunity to participate in a full range of activities to get a feel of the campus.

This was copied and pasted from the UIUC webpage, “In the spring we host Orange and Blue Days for prospective students and their families. These are larger, day-long programs which begin at 10:00 a.m. and last until approximately 3:00 p.m. The morning begins with a presentation by Undergraduate Admissions and a current student panel. Mid-day there is an academic information fair where all of our academic communities will be represented, followed by a general campus walking tours or a College of Engineering tours. There are also opportunities to visit residence halls, our campus recreation facilities, cultural houses, and hear from our financial aid office.”

This visit gave my son all of the information he needed to make the decision that UIUC was the school he wanted to attend.

This was actually the event I used to visit UIUC and it was a great time in my opinion. I am an engineering student, so seeing awesome projects people did to show off was very cool in my opinion. Obviously this also made it possible to visit dorms and get a tour too!

So I recommend it, although the poster above has a good recommendation by the sounds of it as well!

During EOH many buildings are open with displays. Get there early to see it all. Wear comfy shoes. We have taken young relatives there to let them get a look at an engineering school.

When is this weekend scheduled? Where would I get more information?
