I would like to do one of the Engineering majors at UC Berkeley, but applicants to Engineering ‘are advised’ to discuss it in their personal statement.
The most I could do was touch on how I’m really into Science, but to be honest, I really didnt’ have anything to back it up. I’ve definitely got no Engineering-related activities or clubs. I can’t help but feel this really doesn’t help me in such a competitive major and may apply for Biology instead (which is o~k~…I guess)
But: my grades/scores are good: 1600 SAT1 , 800 Writing, 800 Chem, 780 Math iic, and I’m instate since my father is UC Faculty, tho I go to school overseas. [<–I think so anyway, there was some box on the app abt being considered for admission purposes as instate if a parent is UC Faculty]
Here’s the question (thank you for reading so far): Given how minimally I discussed Engineering in my personal statement, will my grades/scores offset this? Or should I bail out and go for Biology?

are you risking not getting into cal at all if you apply to the engineering school and get rejected from them? if not, then go for the engineering major.

if you do risk not getting in if you mark down engineering, apply into a major that fits your accomplishments and background. i guess this would be biology for you. once you get into cal, switch your major (i'm not familiar with cal's policies, so i'm not sure if this is allowed, but i imagine people switch majors all the time).

hehe, wutherland, yes, I get rejected from Cal if I get rejected from the major.
Sunnydaysee, I know, and that's what worries me. See : )? Exactly my problem.

they are not gonna reject a 1600/800/800/780 kid for not having engineering clubs to back up the engineering major. Cal is very numbers-driven, and i'm pretty sure u can get in even w/o engineering clubs.
