Engineering or Sciences?

From what I've heard, Rice is basically known as an engineering school. So my question is, would it be slightly easier to get into Arts & Sciences than Engineering? And therefore a better idea to apply Arts & Sciences, then transfer post-admission?

It'd also be very helpful if someone had admissions statistics for each college. Thanks in advance!

???

If the engineering courses are sequenced beginning first semester, will you get behind if you start elsewhere and then transfer in?

What are your stats? Why are you concerned that you won’t get into Eng’g?

The idea is that the first two years of college, you’re taking general classes anyway. I’m concerned that I won’t be accepted into engineering (assuming that it is harder than Arts & Sciences, but I’m not sure of) because Rice is one of the top schools known for its engineering programs.

My stats are:
Sat Math- 690
Critical Reading- 700
Writing- 680

ACT Composite- 33
Math- 32
English- 33

3.7 GPA (out of 4.0)
Plenty of extracurriculars, jobs, recommendations and references, etc.
Taking all AP/Dual-Enrollment courses
Class rank top 50%

The idea is that the first two years of college, you’re taking general classes anyway.

Actually, that’s not true for engineering majors at many/most schools. Eng’g majors typically are exempt from many general ed courses since they have req’d classes that start freshman year.

So, if you do 2 years of “general ed,” you’ll probably be way behind in engineering…and will take more years to graduate.

Oh wow, I wasn’t aware of that. Thanks for the help, I’m definitely applying engineering now.
