Engineering?? Photography?? Kinesiology?? Bright LD kiddo seeks major!! (Excels at crew?!)

My son is a rising junior, and has interests in the above. 3.0 gpa, no test scores yet.

He has a very technical mind. Very mechanical. But the math requirements are intimidating to say the least. I have heard of a major called "engineering technology" which is described as less theoretical, more hands on. A few schools have this.

How do these bright and motivated kids ((((he has has a job since 13...first an RC store hired him as he was so inquisitive and interested in RC - remote control helicopters, cars- that he impressed them, did sales and repairs. next, THE photography store for the professionals in our large city met him, and hired him for similar reasons...great personality and knows his stuff...he is now interning there and knows so much and is learning more!)))) find a major that suites them in a four year college???

I am thinking engineering technology, mechanical engineering, photography (hard to find a job with that degree i presume) or something to do with the body and its mechanics....are areas for him to pursue...anyone have any thoughts here?? THANK YOU! He does have accommodations, dyslexic and adhd.

Industrial Design?

Lots of dyslexics do well in engineering. You do have to be comfortable with math at least at the level of calculus. I’ve never heard of engineering technology. Per @4ktumble‌’s suggestion, industrial design is also an interesting idea.

I wonder given his personality if he might like a job (after college) in sales support for technical products (software or hardware). An engineering degree would help get that kind of job.

If he’s not strong at math, then I’d steer away from mechanical engineering. (I got my MechE degree 30 years ago. At many schools there is now more project emphasis, by there are still the same intense math/calc classes…)

In the Engineering category I think there are a few old threads on ET. That may be a good place to look.
