Does anyone know how hard it is to get into USC as an undeclared engineering major? Please help!!

I want to know too!!!

me also....... please help us someone.......

It's hard. Engineering is one of the three hardest majors at USC by far. By that reasoning, I would assume that it is also very hard to get into.

In general for USC, you have to have a 3.9 range GPA, 1400 range SAT I, and lots of EC's with leadership and community service experience. For engineering, I assume extra weight would be added for science/math grades and AP/SAT II tests.

USC's engineering program is amazin (they just received another 100 million dollar grant) so I would assume that you should just expect it to be upper eschaelon only.

o *****.................

I doubt its that hard!! chloe173 are u guessing??? how do u know?
I think its as hard as getting in UCSD or lower

Do any of you guys realize that the "average high school GPA: 3.9" statistic from USC is completely bogus? Have you guys talked with the admission officers? After talking with my regional admission officer, she told me that the GPA is a combination of several different factors (although she wouldn't mention what they were without going into the math detail). So it is kind of like a weighted GPA, however USC does it their own way.

Colleges will throw out any kind of statistic because they know that students are gullible and easy targets. The statistic may be correct, however in what way? Is it average high school GPA from 9-11? Is it average high school GPA for first semester of 12? Is it average high school GPA in a time between 9-12? The term "average high school GPA" is vague and can present many different scenarios.

Even if USC claimed that was true, I wouldn't believe it; I think 3.8 is more reasonable. Anyways thats my opinion...

yes that 3.99 is a weighted gpa. so is ucla's claimed gpa of 4.13. now thats much of a difference. this info is from princeton review's site.

yes, engineering for USC is very very hard to get into. just a fact, live with it. USC is ranked #6 on usnews for engineering grad school. higher than ucsd and ucla. did you expect their program to not be competitive?

Grad school is different
I think it is as hard as UCSD engineering.

Being a current undergrad student at SC majoring in Civil Engineering, I've noticed that pretty much everybody I know at SC got a 1350 or higher on the SAT. If you don't mind me saying, I believe that the admission office favors high SAT and SAT II scores over high GPAs. I also believe that this is a smart choice and the way it should be.

On another note, I hardly did any community service and school EC activities to get into USC. No student government, virtually no community service, BUT I have a lot of recreational hobbies, played high school football, and had job experience.
Oh, but on another note I got a 1450 on the SAT I, I'm sure that didn't hurt.
