Any current students in the engineering program care to comment on the program? Size of classes on junior/senior level? Percentage of students that have jobs by graduation? Companies that recruit in the engineering department? I will be visiting at the end of October but any info would be appreciated.

bump… anyone?

I graduated from the Mechanical Engineering department a year ago. I was very impressed with the program, and it seems to be improving more and more as the freshman engineering program progresses and the program grows. In my department junior/senior level classes were fairly small ranging from 10-30 students with mostly the same students in all of them.

I don’t have the actual numbers but most of my friends (and myself) had jobs at graduation and that was in a weak economy. You can probably find a list of companies recruiting at the universities career development website. From memory some of the larger companies recruiting at the engineering expo that interested me were Halliburton, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Dow Chemical, BNSF railroad, Georgia Pacific, USAF, and plenty more I can’t remember. Talking with coworkers who attended other universities they sounded very impressed with our career development program and job fairs.

Thanks for your reply. I visited back in October and would have to agree with everything u said. I believe I remember the rep that I visited with said that the average student in EE had 3 job offers by graduation. I scored a 33 on my Act so hoping to qualify for a fellowship.

Good luck! I had a similar score and didn’t get a fellowship. Thankfully at that time a chancellors scholarship covered pretty much everything.

My advice is to meet the early deadline (November I think). A 33 is good enough, so just make sure your extra curriculars are there and you have good letters of recommendation.
