I am thinking of going to UCSB but i have a question on the kinds of engineering they offer. Is it possible that i can somehow do something in Bioengineering or Environmental engineering there? I heard that you would have to do Mechanical Engineering to do this, with emphasis with biology and environmental studies, but does this mean that you would have to replace some of the classes with what you would normally take in just Mechanical engineering? or would you have to add on more classes? Also, would Computer science with an emphasis of computational biology still be counted as an engineering degree? If it is, can i do this to get into grad school for Bioengineering. This has seriosly been stressing me out, so if anyone can help me clear this up, that would be great.

The best answer to the question you are asking you can get only from the university officials, not from the prospective freshmens or their parents (the majority of college discussion participants).
As of my understanding, such questions are very welcomed and you will get the facts, not rumors, if you just contact UCSB directly.

I agree with happybird. I called with questions about engineering and was connected to an engineering guidance counselor who was very helpful. She also said that this week and next week there is 1 hour presentation for admitted freshman on information of what’s included in the various engineering majors at UCSB. The presentations are daily 2pm, this week and next.

I’m not sure if these presentations are on their website, because this is the first year they are doing this.

Good luck

do you know where i can get more info on the presentations? and did you call just the school number? or any specific department?
