Here's the dilemma:
I applied to Virginia Tech early decision and was accepted as a biology major (I was pretty sure I was going to pursue a premed course for a long time but recently changed my mind). I contacted the engineering admissions specialist to see if it was possible to switch in to the chemical engineering program and the response was that it does not look likely. ENGE 1024 is a required course at Virginia Tech for first semester engineering students and it is granted only to people in the general engineering major so my only other option is to take it at a community college online. Will this be detrimental in the long run? Should I wait until next year to transfer in to the program and then just take the course at Virginia Tech? All other courses are available to non engineering majors except for ENGE 1114 which is a second semester course in freshman year, so I wouldn't be TERRIBLY behind, but would this community college course online be a viable option? It is what the counselor at Tech recommended, but I don't want to be stuck with an awful class that leaves me ill prepared for the engineering transition.

TL;DR:
