It says to internally transfer into the engineering school you need CHEM 135, CHEM 113, OR CHEM271. However, it says "Credit only granted for: CHEM103, CHEM131, CHEM135, CHEM153 or CHEM146" under the course catalog for UMD's Chem 131 and Chem 135 classes. Does that mean I can take a course equivalent to Chem 131 in the summer and have the Chemistry requirement fulfilled to transfer into Engineering. The community college I would go to in the summer does not have a equivalent to UMD's Chem 135, 113 or 271.

were you admitted directly into engineering or first into a science major? because i got into science but i thought i had applied for engineering, does that mean my credentials were not strong enough to get into engineering so they put me into a second choice, or is everyone first admitted into this major and then after taking a few courses we can switch to the school of engineering?

Be careful. It’s a very stupid system as CHEM131 and CHEM135 are both the same, first semester of general chemistry, while 135 is for engineers.

I took AP Chemistry (4) and got credits for CHEM131/132 and still had to take CHEM135 once again at UMD to fulfill the engineering requirements. Similar story for my friend who took an equivalent chemistry class at UMBC but still had to take 135 again.

Make sure it’s transferable and approved before you sign up.

I had the same issue… took 2 years of Chemistry in CC only to get to UMD and have to take CHEM 135…
