Hey guys, does Northwestern require you take calculus and physics to even be considered for their engineering program? I know Georgia Tech and Duke require them basically to be considered in the engineering schools. Also, how easy is it to switch majors? Thanks.
Google is your friend. From the NU website :
The McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science encourages strong preparation in mathematics and science. Recommended coursework includes:
English: 4 full-year courses
Laboratory science: a minimum of 3 full-year courses; chemistry and physics preferred
Mathematics: 3.5-4 full-year courses; calculus preferred, if available; the minimum requirement includes 2 full-year courses of algebra, 1 full-year course of plane geometry and 1 semester of trigonometry
Additional subjects: 5-6 full-year courses; these should include courses in foreign language, history and social sciences
I know a couple of engineers who are freshman in calc 1. It’s not a big deal as long as you show good grades in pre-calc. Some people, for example, opted to take stats instead of pre-calc their senior year, so they take that into consideration. As for physics, a regular (basic) physics course is required as with many other colleges, but AP is not required. In fact, AP credit in Physics C: Mechanics is completely useless for engineers as you’ll have to take it anyways as a part of their engineering first program
