Hi , Saw you post on College Confidential. Can you Tell us more about you exp at Tulane. My son just Applied early decision for their ME program.
Are class sizes very large for first two year. Other than partying…what other recreation is there to do that the students are active in:

Is it a learn by doing approach, are there internships, Campus housing etc since Katrina?

Thanks for your input. Where are you from…just so we understand your sense of context?

genevas - Tulane no longer offers ME, just ChemE and BME. They do have a 3+2 program wherein you major in physics for 3 years and then you are guaranteed a spot (assuming you have passing grades and all) for 2 years at either Vandy or Johns Hopkins for civil, mechanical or electrical. You end up with a BS from Tulane in physics and a BS from the other school in the engineering area.

That aside, class sizes are large (200 or so) for intro chem and calc (if they have to take it), but most other classes tend to be small from what I hear. Not 100% sure about engineering though so I could be wrong on that.

There is tons to do besides partying. New Orleans is an extremely interesting city, and there are club sports, club activities, the arts both on and off campus…There is no lack of choices.

There certainly are internships, as well as hands on research at the school if one wishes.

Campus housing is fine, it wasn’t affected much by Katrina. There are some new dorms as well.

A Connecticut resident & you say parents are willing to commit to 20k/year?

Have you & your parents calculated your EFC yet? That would really help to know what you are up against! Money is a big part of this whole process as we all know! :)
