Engineering Scholarship not yet showing up on bill

I'm looking at my daughter's online student account. She has a UHC scholarship that shows up on PittPay, but her engineering scholarship does not. Do any of the students who've received an engineering scholarship see it posted to their account yet? I was told that it would show up as an outside scholarship. Thanks.

southmom- have tuition bills been posted yet? I haven’t received any notifications.

UHC scholarship has been posted to DS account but engineering hasn’t yet. Engineering usually shows up right before the first due date for payment. It has to be manually entered by someone in the Engineering dept. so it takes the longest to show up. That was the answer when I emailed about it a couple of years ago.

Nope, they haven’t posted the charges yet so no bill yet :)

I remember the outside scholarships showing up on the first bill which I think we got in early August. I have not received any tuition bills yet either but son checked his Pitt account and it has a figure and says future charges.

pamom59: No, I don’t have a tuition bill yet for my daughter. Through PittPay, I can see her student account which reflects the housing deposit that we paid, the admission acceptance deposit, her UHC scholarship, the cost of meal plan, her dorm cost, etc… but it has not yet been consolidated and sent as a tuition bill. I’m sure that will come soon enough! :)

MTnest: Thanks for the info. I’ll just need to be patient it sounds like.

It will eventually show up in your child’s Pitt account. It always showed up by the time the first e-bill is generated :)

For some reason, I think they have to wait until the first day of term to apply scholarships from the Engineering school (I don’t know why, something about the student actually having to go there or some weird reason). What they told us to do was pay the bill minus the scholarship and not worry about it. Check after a day or two of classes and make sure the scholarship was applied by then. If not, then contact someone to get it sorted out. But it definitely won’t show up right now :)

Hmmm…I don’t recall the engineering scholarship being applied that late. Normally we pay the balance when the first e-bill is due otherwise someone would have a nice refund in his bank account when the scholarship money is credited :)

Hah. It could’ve been wayyyyy long ago (aka first semester freshman year). At this point we just pay our dues without including the scholarship and don’t worry about it. It always sorts itself out :)

I spoke to one of the academic advisors at PittStart yesterday and she said that scholarships should show up sometime in August. They can’t be applied until the student has registered for engineering classes and they try to add all the scholarships in at once, so they wait till the end of the summer.

Aha thanks! I remember there being a weird catch…I don’t think mine has shown up yet either. Then again, I don’t think I’ve gotten my fall eBill yet anyway…

Ebill hasn’t been generated yet but the tuition/fees are showing up on your Pitt account along with the UHC scholarship.

Ohhh I see. Oddly enough, my UHC scholarship is still showing up as aid even though it shouldn’t any more…hopefully they fix that when the bill actually comes in, haha.

No, UHC has always shown up as aid. Did you get the financial aid award notification forms? The UHC scholarship is on there as financial aid. We have gotten two so far. They sent another one when the tuition was finalized. They have sent these forms since freshman year.

They also send a form where you are suppose to sign and accept the aid. You are suppose to list other scholarships on it. I don’t know if it is required for the scholarships but we have always filled it out and sent it back to them.

Partway through junior year my scholarship changed from UHC/Engineering to an Endowed Scholar (basically, a gracious alumni pays my entire tuition). So they took away the other two scholarships because they were now redundant. However, the UHC one still shows up on my bill, and I hope it goes away because I feel bad for having it on there right now!

Ohhh, I am sure they will realize their mistake and deduct it from your account.

The first ebill was sent out yesterday :)

So, if the engineering scholarship is not posted on your ebill, do you just wait to pay the bill after the scholarship is posted or do you go ahead and pay the bill now and wait for a refund down the road after the scholarship does get posted to the account?

It depends upon your situation since we pay the entire amount. We wait until the day or two before it is due and then pay it (electronically). The engineering scholarship usually showed up by then. If it didn’t then we would be refunded the amount. This occurs yearly with my son’s other scholarship, we would always get a refund. They are very quick with the refunds and it shows up in the account within a few days once they process it.
