Engineering scholarships/honors

Has anyone who just found out about admission into engineering yesterday received any scholarships with their acceptance? Do you have to be picked for honors in order to receive a scholarship? Has anyone heard from engineering honors yet?

I also got into Engineering yesterday and am waiting for the honors decision. Does anyone know why they don’t just release the honors decisions with regular decisions?

Honors decisions to any program are decided separately, different committees, different readers, it’s a different animal. Someone on this forum had called earlier in the week and the UT honors office said that the letters should HOPEFULLY be in the mail (all honors notifications are by mail) in the following week (Feb 25- Mar 1).

Has anyone received Engineering Honors offer letters ? They were supposed to be mailed starting this week.

No letters here yet from Honors or scholarships. Waiting patiently…;)

Just curious again - did anyone get Engineering Honors award letter ?
Sorry, but losing patience !!

I haven’t heard from engineering honors besides the e-mail they sent out on the 28th saying people would be hearing back for the next two weeks after that (basically the first two weeks of march).

Well the logic of did anyone receive letters works in reverse. Did anyone hear from honors with an e-mail rejecting them? would be nice to know as well since it would indicate whether or not they’ve started reviewing them.

I know this is a pretty old question but I might as well answer it:
“Do you have to be picked for honors in order to receive a scholarship?”
No, but UT likes to reserve most of their scholarships for honors. They get first priority as far as I know, although I don’t quite know if this applies for freshman honors as well.

I expect people are going to start receiving the shortly - I spoke with someone from the engineering scholarships/honors department who informed me that letters were mailed 3/14. Evidently emails should be sent Monday. Good luck everyone!

^Thanks a lot ! Waiting with finger crossing !

Just checked the mail. I got accepted to EHS with a $1,000 first-year scholarship!

I live in Houston, and just received my letter from Cockrell! Accepted into the Engineering Honors program with a $1,000 first year scholarship!

knoxisawsone348 and evigants: Please check your status on the UT MyStatus website and see if it has any information given under the HONORS link…would be interesting to know if the website has been updated. Can you provide your stats? Thanks!! (and waiting on the letter, too)

No change whatsoever on the MyStatus website. The letter also stated that any and all engineering scholarships will not appear under the CA$H tab on UT direct. I was provided with a link to a survey site where I was prompted to accept or decline both admission into the honors program and my engineering scholarship.

SAT 2180 (Math 770, Reading 750, Writing 660)

~3.9 GPA, Top 6% (My rank was hurt since I transferred between two schools with different weighted GPA systems in 11th grade)

National Merit Commended, AP scholar with distinction and competitive swimmer. I also did a few science related EC’s, but nothing spectacular.

Best of luck!

My girlfriend got accepted! She is very happy. We also live in Houston and she also received the scholarship for 1000$. Here are her stats for he curious:

2150 SAT, 4.0 UW (4.7W), National Merit Finalist,
Top 5% of Class. Lots of volunteering, Biomed Engineering. Not URM

Just got accepted and received a scholarship for $1000! The letter came in today, but I still don’t have the email and MyStatus is unchanged.
Stats:
Top 7%, 34 ACT, AP Scholar Award, in-state, All-state choir, lots of volunteering

I got my letter in the mail today and I got accepted into honors with a $2500 scholarship. I got a 34 on my ACT and am in the top 3%.

I have a question on the scholarship though. On the official Engineering website, it said that recipients should write a thank you note to donors for scholarships. Since this is from the school, does that still apply?

Thanks and best of luck to everyone else!

Evigants, I had a 34 ACT and was top 6%, 4 years of band with plenty of awards, National Merit Commended (Actually forgot to put this on the app though), and AP Scholar with Distinction. I’m in Civil Engineering btw.

Any of you an OOS ?
I am an OOS, admitted to Chem Eng, but still waiting. Checked the today’s mail - Nope :frowning:

Hope it is in the snail mail…

OOS California just got in with $2500 scholarship. 35 ACT/4.4w. Were these scholarships purely merit based? I was hoping for more $ considering I am out of state. Are other scholarships, such as the ones we applied for, still available, or is that $ the extent of the scholarships?

You may be eligible for an out-of-state student waiver. Check out the following:
