I believe the engineering scholarships for first year students were to be announced in mid-March. Anyone heard back yet?

You will find out mid-March/early April when the final financial aid offers are released online. This will include all scholarships plus financial loans/grants.

Engineering site stated mid-March. So now it’s getting pushed back further? or were they overly optimistic with the mid-March date? In either case, perhaps someone should update their webpages.

Is this something you needed to specifically apply for, like presidential/medalist HOSA application?

Well, you might get notifications from some individual scholarships, but most likely they will tell you all of the scholarships you have received in your Award package. I believe those start going out mid-March so technically they weren’t lying, but you could get it as late as early April. Best of luck on any scholarship you are hoping to get!

There was an online application for university administered scholarships that was due Feb. 15th. It required an additional essay and there were sections where the applicant indicated major, other areas of interest, talent and special circumstances. The university takes this application into consideration, along with the FAFSA data, when preparing the financial aid award package.

My daughter received a letter from the College of Engineering today notifying her that she is receiving a one-time $1,300 Engineering Dean’s scholarship.

so we got letter in the mail today with Engineering Dean’s award of one time $300 in addition to Maximus $3000. Granted S did not apply for this ( we did not know, was rejected from presidential/medalist), but seriously, $300?
35 ACT 2300 SAT 2400 math/science SAT2, all APs 5s ( calc BC, stats, Phys C mechanics/E&M, Chem , Spanish), serious leadership, music ( 2 instruments + guitar) NMF, Cum Laude, national science olympiad, math state level achievement, national spanish exam gold for 4 years, 2 varsity sports… Also recently listed as co-author is science publication after last summer internship. And OSU engineering awards $300 wow.
Does not look like OSU cares to me.

We’re very pleased and surprised with the amount of scholarships our son has from OSU. He found out today that he’s a recipient of the COFFEE scholarship. It fits perfect with his co-op plans. Added to the other merit scholarship, Pell grant, and Academic Achievement grant, we’re chipping away at that big price tag.

I got an $800 Deans scholarship yesterday. I was really hoping for the COFFEE though.

Did you guys get letters in the mail or emails?

Letter in the mail

I’m not sure everyone knows about this scholarship or is interested, but my son received this information in an email:

As a future Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major you are eligible for the OHSE-Choose Ohio First Scholarship. This scholarship is described on the attached link. However, to quickly summarize: this scholarship is for outstanding future STEM majors who are also interested in providing a minimal amount of STEM community service. The scholarship is for $4500 per year and is awarded based on the quality of submitted essays, academic performance in high school and financial need. Please see the attached link if you think you might be interested in this scholarship. The application deadline in March 25th.

YestErday I got a letter in the mail stating that I have been selected to receive a one year $1300 award as an incoming freshman. I believe it is called the Dean or Kidd award.

^^ it is an engineering scholarship

what kind of stats? My son has:

32 ACT
3.97 GPA/top 10% in class
3 AP with 5’s on all tests (our school doesn’t offer many and has no ‘honors’ program)
lots of extra-curricular activities
2 varsity sports

Other than a university Provost award, we haven’t heard a word yet. Where’s the bar being set to get merit based scholarships in the engineering department?

DS is second year engineering with stats that got him the Provost’s followed by grants, loans, and few extra hundred in engineering scholarships so the total met our COA less EFC. I got the impression that the amount he got in engineering scholarships was keyed to how much more he needed to hit his specific COA-EFC number after the Provost’s, grants, and loans.
