Engineering Scholarships

Has anyone heard from the engineering departmental scholarships?? If not does anyone know when they usually release those?

went to Admitted students day today and they said they you should hear around April 15th, he did say that a lot of them are for soph/juniors…but will keep fingers crossed. He made it sound like if you don’t receive notification around that time you will not get anything.

To add to this question, can students from past years post their stats and what amount the awards were. Also, did you already accept admission before receiving them. I am curious if I accept before the decisions then they would offer it to another student who they are trying to convince them to join UMD.

Anyone hear yet?

since today is the 15th and haven’t heard yet, guess I wasn’t one of them…anyone else receive an engineering scholarship and if so, can you share how much it was for and your stats?

From what I know, those who receive departmental engineering scholarships as incoming freshman typically have stats that would be considered for B/K scholarship. However, after that, once you matriculate, it’s anybody’s game based on your performance in college and you apply yearly.

I called the engineering office today to make sure, and they said engineering scholarships have not been sent out yet as they are running behind. They said if we receive one it will be within a week.

We were at the open house on the 10th. This was her 4th campus visit. My goal was to find and speak to a list of people whom My daughter had emailed about additional merit aid. I found them. spoke to them and we left feeling no better or worse than when we arrived. At this point we needed UMd to come up with an additional 7-10K where we would feel comfortable.

We get home and she was just about to leave with my wife for RPI to attend their Open house the following day when she got an email from RPI giving her an additional 3k a year on top of what they initially gave her. Now, up until about 2 weeks ago RPI wasn’t even on the radar, she had gotten accepted, but no letter of aid. Then the letter of aid comes in and she is initially given enough to put it about 5k less than UMd. The additional aid pretty much put UMd out of the picture.

They got back home Saturday night and her decision had been made. We paid the deposit the other night to RPI.

I also asked about additional aid…NJIT had offered me a substantial award leaving only about 7000.00 a year but I just felt UMD overall was a better fit for me and the engineering dept seems top notch. They said since it is a public school they aren’t capable of increasing aid from the admissions office like a private school can and since all the money has been awarded…our best luck was from the engineering dept. Even if it was a couple of thousand, it helps.

eggyoo…thanks for calling to check on date.

I got two emails today that had the exact same message… Both said that I had a 10k A. James Clark School of Engineering Scholarship. Did anyone else get this scholarship? Did anyone just get two emails? Do you think its an error or what.

why do you think its a mistake? that would be great if you received it. do you mind telling me what your stats where? could you have received a scholarship from 2 different sponsors totaling 20K or was it the exact same email?

Both emails contained the exact same message. I have a few friends who also received the same scholarship and both receiving two emails, but one of them said that other people only received one email so I just wanted to see what happened with other people.

Emailed to inquire about the status of awards and got a reply back from the Clark School. They apparently gave out fewer scholarships this year and weighed financial need more. No award for my future Terp:
