Engineering Scholarships

Has anyone heard whether or not they received an Engineering scholarship yet? If so, how and when?

thank god noone has, I was worried there.

Spoke today with Andrea Heugatter, Director, Engineering Undergraduate Admissions. Decisions letters (Good and Bad) will be mailed this week. NO information will be coming via email. Good Luck to all!

I actually heard via the phone that I was selected as a finalist for the Engineering Scholarship. However, I'm the only ED student so that may be why I was called? I don't know, maybe not. Anyway, good luck everyone. I have a quick question though. There are 12 finalists for the full ride, but are there 4 of those? The website says theres 4 full scholarships and 20 something partial, so I was wondering, because I'm a finalist, will I automatically get a partial or is that a stupid question? Thanks for everything.

thanks coptermom!

I was wondering how RD people will hear in a week that they have received a scholarship when they haven't been admitted yet. Do they send out scholarship decisions only for ED folks?

also apparently you don't hear about the part tuition scholarships (the woodward scholarships) for engineering until early april. the ones you hear about now are only the 4 full tuition scholarships and the ED one

lol psatmadness if you get the scholarship that means you have been admitted!

i received letters in the mail today that said that i was not selected for the any merit-based academic scholarships or fellowships.
does this mean that i won't have a chance at admittance?
i could still receive need-based financial aid right?

You still have a chance at admittance and need-based financial aid.

Well, congrats sirwebber! Good luck to everyone still waiting for their letters!

wait, what? coptermom said that decision letters (good & bad) are getting mailed this week?
what would a bad one say?

I got my scholarship decision yesterday. The letter read:

Congratulations! On behalf of the School of Engineering & Applied Science, I am writing to extend an early congratulations on your admission to Washington University. You will receive your formal letter offering admission to the University within the next few weeks. In addition, it is my great pleasure to advise you that you have been selected as the recipient of a Dean's Honorary Scholarship. (And then it talked more about how competitive the pool was and stuff.)

But does anyone know what a Dean's Honorary Scholarship is? Like the amount? Because it's not specifically listed as a scholarship on the website...and they told me I would not find out the amount until after I receieved my official letter of admission...but I was just wondering how much it was.

Chickenlegs - Didn't mean to cause confusion. When I said decisions letters, good or bad, will be mailed this week, I was speaking ONLY of the Engineering scholarship decisions not your admittance decisions. However, if you are the receipient of a scholarship your letter will also be your likely letter (your acceptance letter will follow.)

Slvrclk313 - My D, who applied ED, recieved a Deans Honorary Scholarship from the Engineering Dept. also. She was notified about that in her finanancial assistance letter which arrived a few days after her admit letter. As to the amount, I believe it varies. It wasn't mentioned in her admit letter at all only that a fin. asst. letter was coming. So, it was a nice surprise! Hers was for $6000/yr.

congrats everyone, i got letter in mail this friday ==> didnt get it!

i got the letter too...the dean's honorary thing varies from 2500 / year to full tuition (30000 or something) renewable for all four years.

Is the Dean's Honor a merit or financial aid scholarship?

Sirwebber - Dean's Honorary is evidently both. D's letter says, (paraphrased)
'scholarship is based on outstanding academic achievement and parents financial assistance app.

Is the Dean's Honorary limited to American students?

coptermom....could u show me that? i have the letter in front of me, and it seems to be purely merit based. i don't see anything mentioning parents except "your selection to reciever one of our limited # of scholarships is an honor and credit to you, your family, and your school"

geniezclone, i don't think its limited to US students because it says "our merit committee ... reviewed over 700 remarkable applications from students throughout the country and around the world.."
