Engineering School Admissions

The majority of my EC's and AP tests are more business/economics focused than math/science focused. In addition, most of my lower grades have been in Math and Science. However, I still have a deep interest in engineering and computer science. Is it still possible for me to be admitted to engineering schools, or will I just be rejected?

Yes, of course. With hundreds of (ABET accredited) engineering schools, I’m sure you’ll a fit at many. You would have issues with the most selective schools, but otherwise you will have plenty of options.

Bump Bump

I agree with Gator. I would also add that you still have time to take summer programs and senior year courses and ECs to align with an engineers application. If you want to go into engineering or computer science, get going with getting your feet wet.

Why’d you bump? What gator said is exactly the answer. There are 100s of programs that want motivated and talented applicants. You don’t need a SINGLE science related EC and you’ll still be fine. It may not be Caltech, MIT or CMU or that batch – but 10000s of students are thriving in Engineering programs across the country. It’s up to YOU to find the ones that match your wants/abilities.

EDIT: I just looked up your stats: 3.6 UW 4.2 W (“My school is pretty competitive”) and 2340 SAT; Now I’m going to challenge your panic-sympathy-mode. Tell us what the percentile a 2340 SAT is and cut out the “oh woe is me” stuff. Really.

If you were to ask anyone a list of top engineering schools in the country, you’d be viable for all but the most select ones. Off the top of my head: GaTech, Purdue, UTAustin, UCLA, USC, UCSD, UIUC, Rose Hulman, RPI, Cornell, Wisc, VTech, etc.
