Engineering school AP/DE question

Who would the contact be in the engineering school to help determine scheduling for a first year in regard to AP and DE credits. I understand that group advising is done at orientation, but is there someone to discuss this with prior to July? Is it advisable to re-take calculus and physics at UVA even with the DE credits and then use the credits to take the place of electives, or is that not possible.

If you retake a class you forfeit your credits. Search for calculus AP on this forum to read lots of people saying to take your credits over taking Calc II here at all costs.

You have to take a placement test for the eschool regardless of credits anyways.

There was also a thread a few days ago about AP credits. You can use the credit transfer analyzer (google for it) to guess about DE credits. You could always email the eschool transfer credit advisor, I’m sure their email is on the SEAS page somewhere.

Watch out for science APs - lots of time you don’t get lab credit.

I don’t know about how it relates to engineering, but the UVa Chemistry dept. has a good webpage aimed towards first year students. It provides good advice about how AP credit works and alternatives.

Everyone should be careful about dual enrollment classes taken inside a high school building. I don’t know about UVa, but many selective colleges will not give credit for them.
