Does anybody have any reccommendations for good engineering schools that are possible to get into on the east coast (preferably in the northeast). Thanks!

All of them are “possible to get into”.
If you want to know what YOU can get into, that is another question and we can’t answer it without knowing more about you.

Haha well… I have a 1770 sat (690m 590w 510cr) 3.3 uw gpa 3.8 weighted with 4 ap courses and a lot of honors. I think my essay is very original and well written and my extracurriculars are average at best. Boston university is my top school but idk how good chances are… If there’s any schools you reccommend for engineering I’d love to hear them. Thank you!

1790 I mean*

Hofstra, RIT, Drexel, Syracuse - might be matches for your stats. Did you take AP tests or SAT Subject tests?

Try using the college search tool here on CC with all of your data. [College Search - College Confidential](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/college_search/)
Be sure to expand the number of results at the top (20 by default) and be sure to select “must have” for any important criteria (like your GPA, test scores, majors, location) otherwise it may come up with some odd matches.
What’s good about this site is that it compares your GPA and test scores against the reported ones for the schools and tries to guess the “fit”. It represents the fit as percentage and when you click on the “why?” underneath the fit number it shows you how you compare.

What can your family afford for college?

Alright I will try that thank you! I was looking into Drexel and Syracuse also, but do you think I have any chance at bu?

That is a problem also haha. I’m a little tight financially which is why I’m looking into some sunys. But I think I should be able to get a decent amount of financial aid.

Also I’m not sending the one subject test I took because I didn’t do well

Just because you have need does not mean you will get FA. Most schools will gap the student. The schools that meet need are very competitive to get into. Head over to the financial aid forum to read up on that.

Yeah I understand that, which is why I’m applying to 2 sunys because I’m from ny… But I will check it out thanks.

I think your stats make BU a little bit of a reach ( for engineering in particular), but still worth trying. Check their Common Data Set, section c to see how you stack up.

I’d have to agree haha I don’t think there’s much of a chance but thanks for your help!

Use the net price calculator at each college’s web site to get an idea of what it may offer you for need-based financial aid.

I’m not really so worried about the money right now as I am about getting in… I really just need any recommendations for good value engineering schools in the northeast

The net price calculator check should not take too long, and can prevent you from wasting time and application fees on schools that are financially out of reach.

An even worse outcome is getting into a bunch of schools which are all unaffordable.

Stony Brook is the most obvious “good value engineering school” in the northeast, even more so if you are a New York resident.

Alright ill check it out… And yeah that’s what I’ve heard so I applied there plus I’m from New York. But how would you say it stacks up to the engineering schools at Binghamton Uvm bu Delaware and northeastern?

Northeastern is a special case due to the emphasis on co-ops (which are typically optional at other schools). Drexel is similar.

Stony Brook is actually a very respectable school for engineering, math, physics, and CS, so don’t overlook the bargain in your back yard.

What particular type of engineering? Delaware is most known for chemical engineering.

I’m looking at mechanical but it’s not definite, I’m also interested in electrical/computer… I’m kinda going frantic because I was just denied from the school I was committed to for baseball after being told I was basically guaranteed in. So now I have to find all new schools haha thts why I’m trying to get a lot of different opinions. Does stony brook have a nice campus? I’ve heard bad things haha

You are a good candidate for RIT. I hope they give you money.

Other possible schools include Stevens, Drexel, Clarkson.

You might have a shot at BU, Northeastern, WPI, Bucknell, Lafayette

It’s worth taking another shot at the SAT in January. Your SAT is holding you back across the board. Even getting the math over 700 would greatly help your chances, though the rest of your SAT is rather low too.
