Engineering School

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone knew the chances of being accepted into the school of engineering versus the arts and science school. I know that it would not be helpful to apply to the engineering school if you didn't have a strong math/science background but if you do, is it easier to get in to the engineering school? Also does anyone know the male to female ratio in the engineering school? Thanks.

Here is a listing of the admissions by school released in March 2006 for the entering class of 2005. ( Most recent published on WashU website)

School- Applied- Enrolled
Architecture - 656- 44
Art- 605- 79
Art and Science- 14284- 878
Business- 2593- 147
Engineering- 3377- 240

Sorry, I couldn't find breakdown by school for the M/F ratios, but I remember when my D went thru Eng orientation for BME the ratio for that major was 54% male - 46 % female (Fall 2006). This, I believe, is the exception. I'm thinking the overall ratio was 75% to 25% for the Eng. school.

My son is an engineering senior and his perception is that females in engineering tend to go into particular fields like BME and civil engineering. Other majors have very few. So depending on your field, the ratio you would experience would diverge quite a bit from the overall ratio for the entire college.
