Engineering Schools for 3.25/3.9 GPA?

Hello, this is my first post on this forum, I do believe I once saw a link for engineering schools for students with 3.0-3.33 gpas however I can't seem to find it.

Im a junior in a large competitive highschool in a northern Chicago suburb,

Going along with how my grades have been in the past I imagine maintaining my current gpa of
3.25uw and 3.9w

I have only taken honors and AP classes except for health, gym, and PLTW classes.

I have taken 2 practice ACT's and have scored 29 cumulative at the highest, I haven't put forth much effort or studying for those tests. I'm currently enrolled in an act prep class this January so I expect to improve my score with some additional studying as well.

By the end of senior year I will have taken 8 AP courses.

I will have played lacrosse for 3 years, hockey for 2 years, and cross country for 2 years.
I'm a part of the FIRST Robotics team for my school as well.

I'm fairly certain I want to be a computer eng/science major in college.

Despite my lacking gpa, what colleges do you recommend? I really don't think I'd even be close for uiuc, purdue, uw mad, gtech, compe programs. Would I even have a chance at UC boulder compe program?

Boulder will be glad to take your OOS money, I think. It will be costly. I’d certainly put some Illinois state schools on your list because most state schools have an obligation to strongly consider feeding the state economy by producing its engineers, teachers, etc.

The math in engineering school is really quite difficult wherever you go. I hope you will prepare yourself for it in high school. In case you find college math impossible, as many do, prepare a backup plan now.

And finally you need to get a figure from your parents about what they can afford to pay. Run some net price calculators because if you cannot afford it you cannot go there.

Cost is only a slight issue, I’m very fortunate that my parents have raised a decent college fund for me.

Talk to your parents about how much they’ll spend and how much is in the fund. Going OOS could cost $160k-200k or more.

Ok, but what are some respectable schools that offer compe that would match me?

what about Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute? it could possibly be too easy of a school for you, though. it’s your choice, really. Why not go grab some college guide books and look around

I think you underestimate your chances at Purdue. Another possibility is Iowa State, if you want to stay fairly close to home. No idea how strong its CE program is, but Santa Clara is located in Silicon Valley and has a good diversity of majors should your interests change. SIU Carbondale may also fit your preferences and the courses may not be as rigorous as at UI.

Realistically, most state flagships and land grant schools will accept you although they may be unaffordable.

If you’re looking at privates you may want to consider Marquette, U Miami, and RPI.

thanks guys, very helpful!

I don’t think RPI is likely with those scores. Try using the CC search tool with your major and scores (and locations etc.) and tell it to return way more than the default 20 results.

RPI might be a bit of a reach but some of the other [Association of Independent Technological Universities: AITU](http://theaitu.org) schools will probably accept you. Your projected ACT is in the median for my university, Illinois Institute of Technology while your GPA is a bit under the average.
