Engineering Schools (Georgia) - Schools for Mechanical Engineering?

Here in Georgia, there are not many schools with ABET accredited programs. The five schools, as far as I know, are Georgia Tech, UGA, Georgia Southern, Southern Polytechnic State University, and Mercer (Private). The dilemma here though is that it seems to be either Georgia Tech or bust, but my SAT/ACT scores may not be good enough to get in. I scored a 1820 SAT (590 CR, 640 M, 590 W) and a 27 ACT (27 E, 28 M, 24 R, 28 S). While it may be a match for UGA, the Mechanical Engineering program there is not even accredited by ABET and I have no clue if it will be in the near future. The only engineering programs that are accredited are the ones that GT doesn't even offer.

So my questions are: How are GA Southern and Southern Poly looked at for engineering and how are their engineering programs compared to Georgia Tech? I've already applied to GA Southern as I really love the campus there and the atmosphere. I find it more appealing than SPSU but SPSU is a bit confusing though. They are merging with Kennesaw State University and I don't know how that's going to work out or affect them. I've also considered the transfer route to GT through RETP. I've already applied to UNG for Engineering RETP but my Physics teacher said (who's a graduate from that school) that it's better to go through the dual degree program route (Engineering/Physics) rather than RETP so I want to hear opinions from engineering students on what's better.

Thanks.

You may have a few additional lower cost options from http://automaticfulltuition.yolasite.com/</a> , depending on your high school GPA, if affordable options are what you are looking for. Tuskegee, Howard, Florida A&M, and Prairie View A&M look like possibilities, depending on your GPA.

My non-weighted GPA is a 3.80 and my weighted is 4.10. Thanks for the recommendations as I would look into those as well!
