Engineering Schools (I will chance back!!!)

Hello, I’m a Junior at Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, Illinois (EXTREMELY competitive and difficult school… GPA is worth A LOT) and I want to apply to UCLA, USC, UCB, NYU, UIUC, and NORTHWESTERN for Civil Engineering

Unweighted GPA: 3.61
Weighted GPA: 4.53
ACT: 34 (35, 35, 32, 34)
Class Rigor: ALL honors and AP classes
AP scores(so far): AP CALC BC – 5, AP Euro – 4, and AP Macro – 5
EC: Summer intership since Freshman year at a CIVIL ENGINEERING company, learned how to use CAD (Computer Aided Design), president/founder of Coffee and Tea Club, board member of MTAC (Marrow Transplant Awareness Campaign), 2nd place DECA State, in National Honors Society, in National Society of High School Scholars, am attending the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders in Harvard Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts, I am receiving my National Academy of Future Scietists and Technologists Award of Excellence, have a Physics acievement award, and an Athletic award for Volleyball.

I know my GPA is my weakness but I’m hoping my good ACT score and really good EC will compensate.
What are my chances? Thanks!!!

What’s your UC GPA? You can find a calculator here: https://rogerhub.com/uc-undergraduate-admissions-calculator/ which can also be used as an estimator for acceptance chances for the UC’s. You’re above the 75th percentile for SAT/ACT for the UC’s on your list and USC is not as selective as people think: their average admitted GPA is around a 3.7 but with a much lower weighted GPA. If you’re going into engineering, you really should take some hard science SAT IIs if you havent already. NYU I think you’ll likely get into and you’re strong for Northwestern but it’s a toss-up not because you’re a poor candidate but because of the nature of your feild and the school itself. If anything, your GPA is what will bring yo down but if your school is very competitive, that will be factored in!

My UC GPA is a 3.98 I believe. Thank you!!

The UCs and NYU will be extremely expensive.

OOS fees at the UCs will run you $55k per year; are your parents willing to pay that? NYU and USC are even more expensive at $72K per year.

Yes- We are not asking for financial aid at all, income bracket: ~$1million
