I pretty much have my reaches(MIT, Stanford - not happening) set out already, and have one safety/match (UIUC, instate) but I think I need some more safety schools.

Here are my stats:
Asian Male
3.7 - 3.8 UW (somewhere, not exactly sure)
33 ACT, 2060 SAT (retaking)
Currently taking AP Chem, USH, BC, English Lang., expecting 5s on all
Very Math/science based ECs

I was looking at schools like Purdue and OSU, but I'm not exactly sure whether those can be considered "safeties" or not.

More than likely going to major in MechE or Materials Science, maybe Biomedical (no decision on which)

Any thoughts on match/ safeties that I can look into (any part of country is fine)?

Not sure how safe these are for admissions, but they cost less than most out of state public universities:

University of Minnesota - Twin Cities
North Carolina State University
Virginia Polytechnic and State University
New Mexico Institute for Mining and Technology
Iowa State University
California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo (definitely NOT a safety, but relatively low cost)

OP’s stats fit perfectly for our Honors College!! There are plenty of Illinois residents attending Ohio State. The school has also recently raised its National Buckeye Scholarship for non-Ohio residents as an attempt to recruit top students across the nation.

Ohio State is committed to enrolling a diverse and talented student population. The National Buckeye Scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis to non-Ohio students required to pay the out-of-state surcharge who are admitted to the Columbus campus for autumn semester. Those considered rank in the top 40 percent of their graduating classes and have ACT composite scores of 28 or higher or combined SAT Critical Reading and Math scores of 1260 or higher.

Thanks everyone! I’ll definitely look into some of these schools.

Yeah, I was thinking of Michigan as well, but I wasn’t sure about how much of a match that was.

also I have to take the ACT again(but the first time was w/o writing, so that’s why I’m taking the SAT) for Illinois state tests, so I think I should try to retake the SAT once more.
