Engineering schools...

Well, I am a sophmore in my second semester. I know, I worry way too much about colleges. Anyways, here are my stats:

**Note, I go to a Catholic High School of about 1300 students. Religion is a required class.

Health (required) B+ (teacher hated me :/ )
HnrsGeometry A
HnrsBio1 A

-(most likely) Going to be in National Honor Society
-Tons of EC's, 100+ hours of Service
-Summer internship in Hospital Computer networking department
-Not sure what class rank is yet
-High honors all 4 quarters of freshman year
-Tons of clubs

I am proffecient in C++ and Java programming, and am looking to major in Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.

I am freaking out after reading some of the threads on this forum about people being denied from MIT and CalTech with amazing scores, so I decided to post here, see what you all think. What do you think my chances are of getting into any of the following schools?

Cornell
Carnegie Mellon
Georgia Tech
Stanford (I wish)
MIT (I wish)
CalTech (I wish)
Any other good Engineering schools.

Thanks for your input.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, my course selection for Junior year consists of:

Honors German3
AP English 11
AP US History
AP Biology
Honors Physics
Honors Pre Cal
Religion (sigh, this takes up an AP class spot! Damn Catholic Schools!)

Calm down...post when you have scores and whatnot...

Don't worry

It is so hard not to stress though. I swear, throughout my sophmore year thus far, I have easily taken 3 years off my life due to my stressing...

If you stress this much in sophomore year...I have no idea how you are going to live in junior year!...jk....

I say go with your hobbies/passion and pursue, pursue, pursue

If you like math, study problem solving...
CS, study programming more and do olympiads...

Also, you can self study AP calculus in junior year if you want to

Self study AP Calc? How?

Also, I am taking the most AP classes possible junior year, but Religion takes up a spot, and I want to take 4 years of a language.

Another question: I got into AP Stats, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP US History, AP English.

We have to take english and US history before we graduate, I figured I would just take them as AP's and get them over with. I thought I would take AP Bio junior year also, and then senior year load up on more maths and sciences. Do you think this is a good idea?

THis whole self-studying AP's is new to me, can anyone explain?

I self studied AP Calculus AB and BC my sophomore year. If you are a sophomore, than it is probably too late to begin self studying this course at this point in the year.

Self studying is where you learn an entire subject by yourself and then take an exam(usually AP) to verify your knowledge of the subject.

Well, another question. Two parts to it, really:

A. Is it possible to self study an AP class over the summer in between Sophmore and Junior year, continueing through Junior year if nessecary?

B. What AP class should I self study (if this is possible) for an engineering school?

i dont see why they would suggest self studying ap cal at the same time when youre learning pre cal. id recommend taking precal in summer school before junior year and taking AP Calculus during your junior year.

you probably have time to take ap chem and ap physics before you graduate so you dont have to stress yourself even more by self studying

Bah alright. I just feel I am so behind everyone else. All the public schools around here can take AP classes in their sophmore year, and don't have to take all the required classes I do. So do not self study a relatively easy AP this summer? I ma taking AP bio AP us Ap english next year, and have qualified for those plus AP chem and AP stats. I guess I will take those senior year.

Colleges will not fault you for taking religion instead of an AP course. Do not worry, adcoms know your school and the required classes. Good luck!
