Engineering Science (non-honors) or AP Bio/Chem?

S is choosing classes for senior year. He’ll have 6 APs (including Calc BC and Physics) when he graduates. Almost every other class he has taken is honors level. He would like to major in engineering in college, he’s leaning toward mechanical, electrical, or envronmental. His HS offers Engineering Science (non honors or AP) which is a full year science course that dives into many aspects of engineering. I think its briliiant and I’ve advised him to take this course in addition to AP Physics next year. However, I worry that if he is applying to engineering programs without AP Chem or AP Bio on his transcript he may be at a disadvantage. Any opinions?

It the engineering course is a strong course it could be very helpful for him to get a better sense of his interests. I think AP Physics is important for engineering and calculus. But AP Bio not so much. If he has already taken a chemistry class, I would not consider AP Chem a must. Will he take or has he taken Math 2 and Physics or Chem SAT 2 tests?

He aced bio and Chem honors but didn’t take the SAT 2s. We were advised that they are wasteful unless he wants to go to a school that requires them. No Math 2 SAT either. I’ll have him ask around about the rigor and strength of the engineering class. Thanks.
