Engineering Students Profile Page

<p>Thought it would be interesting to get everyone's personal take on their engineering experiences... So present yourself here. Sample format listed below.</p>

<p>School: Engineering U<br>
Year: Junior
Major(s): Civil
Career Goal: Work for Company X in their Y department doing Z (etc.)
Personal View: "I was thinking about electrical, but chose mechanical instead b/c...", "and I love it/hate it", "my school is great/awful"</p>

<p>School: CPSU
Year: Senior (graduating in 1 quarter)
Major: ME
Career Goal: Work for a major oil company.
Personal View: If I could do it all over I'd likely go to CS. ME is not a bad choice though, due to its incredible versatility.</p>

<p>School: Cornell University
Year: Sophomore
Major: Electrical & Computer Engineering
Career Goal: Research in industry</p>

<p>School: UCLA
Year: Senior
Major: Chem E. (Semiconductor Manufacturing Option)
Career Goal: Work in materials processing or at the company I currently intern for, which licenses technology for Lube Oil Recycling.
Personal View: Once I graduate, I'm going cash out my first check and flash my money in front of them college buddies going on to med school! HA hA!</p>

<p></p>

<p>Semiconductors is a very lucrative field.</p>

<p>School: Illinois
Year: Junior
Major: Computer Science
Career Goal: Work for a major software company like Microsoft
Personal View: CS is very hard...</p>

<p>School: Stanford
Year: Sophomore
Major: Chemical Engineering
Career Goal: Work in R&D on fuel cells</p>

<p>School: University of Minnesota
Year: Freshman
Major: Electrical Engineering
Career Goal: TBA</p>

<p>Undergrad school: The Cooper Union
Grad school (MS): Columbia University
Year: 1st (and last) year grad student
Major: Civil Engineering
Concentration: Construction Engineering & Management (at the master's level)
Career Goal: Work for a large construction manager or general contractor in a project management role</p>

<p>If I could do it all over again… I would've been more involved in ASCE (professional society for civil engineers) earlier on. </p>

<p>Cooper Union had an intense workload, and I probably would not have made it if I wasn't passionate about the subject matter. I've only had an orientation so far at Columbia, but things seem good so far. Professors appear very approachable, the program I'm in is very flexible , and the facilities are pretty good as well. Perhaps the best aspects of both schools are their locations; NYC has a plethora of opportunities for civil engineering majors, which is good not only for those planning to stay in NYC after graduation, but those wanting part-time internships during the academic year as well.</p>

<p>School: UK
Year: Soph
Major: Mech E
Career Goal: in the works
Personal View: Will update when I have more info</p>

<p>School: PSU
Year: Junior
major: Chemical Engineering
Career Goal: to become a musician..engineering is my back up plan.
Personal View:</p>

<p>School: USC (Viterbi)
Grad School: same place.
Year: Senior
Major(s): EE (Optoelectronics, Solid State Processing)
Career Goal: Maybe go for 2nd M.S. and then work for solar energy or semiconductor company</p>

<p>Personal View: there are so many Indians at my school. And I can teach better than most of my professors if I have their notes and solution manual.</p>

</p>

<p>I say that for SO many classes.</p>

<p>University: Polytechnic University NYC
Major: EE
Year: going to start in a week freshman.
Plans: hey i am going to start EE next week. And i already have a mission. too early? I think i want to go towards avionics, towards semiconductors or solar cell energy.</p>

<p>If you really became a professor, you'll have so many other priorities that you won't care for teaching as much as you do right now.</p>

<p>School: PSU (mont alto campus)
Year: Freshman
Major(s): Aerospace/Mechanical
Career Goal: I love everything about aviation and aeronautics whether it is commercial or defense industry. I would love to work in those fields.
Personal View: I am still not sure if I want to major in Aerospace or Mechanical... I love courses for both of them but Aerospace seems a little bit more interesting than Mechanical, but Mechanical offers me a degree which will be much versatile then Aerospace.. I'm open for any engineering degree...Only time will tell I guess.</p>

<p>School: California Institute of Technology
Year: Freshman
Major(s): Aerospace/Mechanical
Career Goal: Not sure, I like the idea of startups and I'm interested in the defense industry and military applications of engineering
Personal View: I signed myself up for four years of hell; this degree better be worth it ;).</p>

<p>School: UC Irvine
Year: Senior
Major(s): EE
Career Goal: Designing ICs.
Personal View: I should've picked Computer Engineering... now I have to learn a lot of computer architecture on my own.</p>

<p>School: California Institute of Technology
Year: Junior
Major(s): Electrical Engineering
Career Goal: Really unsure at the moment. Hoping to figure this out this year after some more coursework. Current learning towards working in an industry job doing communications and/or circuit work.</p>

<p>School: California Institute of Technology
Year: Freshman (Prefrosh technically, it's a Caltech thing)
Major(s): Chemical Engineering
Career Goal: Currently, to graduate, and go on to get a PhD; then go into pharmaceutical or biomedical research. Or fortune willing, become a chemical engineering professor.
Personal View: Just hoping to pass Core right now...</p>
