Engineering transfer statistics

I just discovered an interesting fact. According to external transfer statistics from 2005 186 applied for engineering, 61 were accepted. However, only 23 entered, which leaves us with 38 unfilled spots. Does this mean they will offer all of these spots to the waitlisted ppl??? if so it raises the real acceptance rate significantly.

no, Cornell engineering has an expected yield rate. In order to reach they number of students they want, they actually over-admit students. Say they have 20 spots to fill, but they only expect half of the people offered admission to actually enroll. They will offer 40 kids spots while expecting half to enroll for the desired 20 open spots. Although 61 were accepted, admissions did not expect 61 to enroll. Yield rates are very consistent from year to year so it's safe for admissions to rely on these numbers. Also, there is no waitlist for transfers: it's either yes or no.

thanks for your response gomestar(all 3 of them :) )

Interesting... is this the same for freashman applicants? Have they ever screwed up by having extra students enroll?
...Just curious.

a lot of schools overadmit and overenroll, such the case with Northwestern last year, they had 2050 freshman enrolled with only wanting a class size of 1950. What happened: 100 kids droped out over the summer months, called "summer melt" and went to othe schools and they reached their target enrollment of 1950.
