Engineering Transfer with 2.9 GPA

I'm a Junior in Engineering at Umass Amherst where our program in nationally
ranked as #40. I have junior status in Engineering and my advisor said a 2.9
as a junior in a top 50 engineering program is fairly respectable. Regardless I still want to transfer to another school. What are my chances at Wash U or Maryland college park.

2.9 is like B, what's wrong with that? is Amherst really hard? i know it's really tough to get in to but...

He said he goes to University of Massechusetts at Amherst, not Amherst College...I think you may have them confused Newbyreborn.

Its not particulary hard here it is just that with 18 credits of all math
and science courses it is hard to get that 3.5+ that most transfers have.
I want to get out of Mass; Maryland, Emory, and Wash U have the highest
transfer acceptance rates I've seen. Do Adcoms understand it is hard to get above a 3.0 in high level engineering courses.

Amherst college doesn't have engineering it is a LAC
