Engineering transfers to Cornell for Fall '09

Hello fellow engineers, I was just wondering how many of us applying to Cornell as transfers are applying to the College of Engineering. I am, obviously, but I've seen lots of CAS, CALS and Hotel Administration transfer applicants, but I haven't seen to many engineers. If you guys are applying to College of Engineering, post which engineering major and for sophomore or junior standing here!

hello there! I am applying as a JR-Transfer for Mechanical Engineering.

hi, i see. we don’t seem to have many this year, at least from CC! Which is good for those of us applying I guess, if this is any indication as to the total number applying. i’m applying for chemical engineering for sophomore standing.

deep down i was hoping that not too many people would apply, i hope this works out well for us, they have a small number of applicants to evaluate. how schools did u apply to?

i’ve hung my heart on Cornell…for me, its go big or go home. and if i dont get this, god forbid, nobody knows how badly i want it, then im going to my local university…i hope we have a good shot.

bump 10 char

hey zirtico, two people(here) have been accepted so far but they are both CALS, so i guess we should still hang in there lol.

haha yeah, definitely. that’s the thread i’m on all the time. you and i are the only ones i know who are applying as transfers to CoE. that is good I think hehe. But who knows how many are really? Is your application “under review”? If it is, when did it go into that state?

i want to add that i know how you guys feel. we have a hotel school thread in the cornell section with two other CC members who post frequently. It just seems weird such few CC-active applicants for our respective schools, right? hehe

haha yeah remy. i think that’s a good thing. from the general cornell transfer thread, there seem to be a large number applying to CAS and CALS. less to Engineering and Hotel Admin. If dragon got decision now, I’m expecting mine next week sometime hehe.

I checked last week I think! Cant really remember the first time i saw that it had gone for review but it was not too long ago(a week or so). I dont really know how the decision process works but I would really like to get a decision before the end of April. I hope it all goes well.

Hey guys. I’m surprised to see only 3 engineering transfers on CC. I’m applying for Computer Science for sophomore standing.

Welcome pacific! Sorry, I asked about your engineering on the other thread. Computer Engineering huh. Cool. I think both chrisjah and I are quite surprised as well to see only 3 engineering transfers on CC. Thinking optimistically, this means better chances, and quicker decisions. But this only thinking like an engineer. Who knows, there may be lots of engineering transfer applicants, but no harm in being optimistic! I asked this on the other thread as well but I was just wondering if chrisjah and you as well, and I will too, post our stats?

Ah I saw your post on the other thread. Those look good. My GPA isn’t as great, but McGill isn’t all that easy either. How do you think your essays were? What kind of approach did you take?

I thought it was pretty good. I wanted to apply straight out of HS, but my stats weren’t strong enough. So, I wrote about how college has made me mature as a student and a person…plus my love for cornell and computer science. Also, I had 4 excellent letters of recommendation. What did you write about? And McGill, that should look great on your application as I heard its a good school. But I’m guessing you’re a “better fit” for Cornell…hehe.

zir, you’re going for jr or soph standing?

hey! my stats arent too impressive just normal for cornell i guess. but here it goes
HS gpa: 96/100 (International Secondary school)
Took the A levels exams: all As.
College Gpa: 3.85
major: Aerospace Engineering but planning to switch to mechanical Engineering for cornell and maybe do a Cs minor.
ECs: Research and two independent studies(I wouldnot recommend this to anyone) it screws up your gpa especially if you are doing it in say complex analysis like I am.
Tutors physics, maths and chem.
thats pretty much it.

Haha I don’t know…you had more letters. I had one top-notch one. My essays were decent, I thought at least. My stats weren’t strong enough to get in from HS either. I wrote about other stuff. I figure you have an awesome shot. From GPA and letters and topic of your essay, I’d say you’re probably in.

Thanks Zirtico. I really hope to get in. And I hope all of you do as well.

Hey, guys, I am the 4th applying for mechanical engineering. Any idea when they will notify us?
