hello there , one more engineering applicant to Cornell! I am applying as a sophomore -Transfer for Civil Engineering for the fall of 09.

Hey doboo, welcome. It seems that only now, all the engineering applicants are coming out of the dark. We have just handful of engineers here. I’m applying for sophomore standing, (completing freshman) year right now, majoring in chemical engineering. Anyone on this thread want to swap essays/rec. letters, just to have a read of what the other engineers wrote?

Good!! i can see more engineers joining the thread. this is very nice. I havenot looked over my essays since i sent them, am afraid of seeing some errors. I will try to find them, would pm u when i get them. as for rec letters, i dint see them but the profs assured me that they were good

just out of curiosity, anyone knows if it’s easy to switch major/department in CoE?
also…i just learned that 3 out of 7 of Cornell’s undergrad schools are state-funded…they are public…which is kinda interesting…

yeah, i had been reading this thread for a short while. thought i might join in. does any one know when we will find out about our decisions? some time in May…i wonder if there is an exact date? hmm…I’m kind of expecting a rejection letter any way, but you never know.Yah same chrisjah i don’t to read my essays i find tons of errors. as for rec i think i’ve have some pretty good recs…by the way what did everyone write about in their essays?

Haha yeah doboo, apparently early May is when things start. Don’t expect rejection yet. Have hope. I do for the first time, although I am very afraid of rejection, I don’t care because this time, I’ve put everything I had and more into the application. I must have proofread my essay a billion times after submitting and it’s not until my friend pointed it out to me, that I noticed that I had one typo on both, my supplement and general Common App essay. I was SO ticked. I was missing an " 's " and a “to”. But the meaning is still very clear without them. I’m still pretty annoyed. I read it over SOOOOOO many times and I NEVER caught that. I think after a point in your essays, you start seeing what you WANT to say, rather than what is actually written. This friend of mine applied to Cornell and Columbia and I proofread his essays and I found a typo in each of them as well. He was ticked as well. I just hope they don’t think that I didn’t take enough care, because I really did.

Don’t worry Zirtico, you’ll be fine. I’m sure they’ll forgive a typo. It happens, we want everything to be perfect and sometimes overlook the simplest of mistakes. Like in my case, I had proofread my essay dozens of times, but I’m glad I asked my English teacher to proofread it as well and she caught a typo and a grammatical error. Don’t stress yourself! :)

Haha thanks pacific. I can’t do anything about it anyway now, so I’m not too worried. And if they turn me down for that, then it’s really their mistake in believing that I’m all about missed " 's ". I just want to get in already! Call me obsessed but I just can’t go anywhere else…If anyone gets a decision on Monday, post here! (I’ve heard many decisions are announced on Monday.)

yes your right zirtico, i should not expect a rejection letter just yet . well at least not now lol. although, i’m growing restless waiting on a decision from Cornell. i wish i could see into the future. sometimes i wonder if i were to change one thing about my common application would it affect my decision to Cornell. bad or good hmmm?.. Monday? wow let’s hope one of us finds out his/her decision.

So many different things floating around. Now most people say that “decisions are mailed out THIS Friday”. I would love to have ours mailed out on Friday, but I don’t know if its a specific college that does it or all the colleges. If they mailed out Friday by priority mail as they do, then we’d have ours by Monday or Tuesday. I wish…

Well, getting our decisions by next Monday/Tuesday might still be a possibility. When I had previously called, they did say that decisions will be released in May/June on a rolling basis via mail. So, if you submitted all your application materials super-early(like me:) ), then there is a good chance that you may hear back soon.

I hope sooooo!! I think NOW is when things REALLY get started.

wow, does Cornell view hte transfer apps in the order of their arrival. If so that would really suck cuz I sent mine in like on the last day…

I don’t think so Ophelia - are you in engineering out of curiosity? They only send in stuff for review as soon as the files are completed. Although if you sent yours in late, you may get your decision later, not that that is supposed to affect your decision.

Yea, I am applying for engineering. Sent my app in like March sth, lol. Hopefully my lateness doesn’t affect the decision. Hopefully they dun go like “the first 1000 apps” are good enough, let’s just look through rest cursorily and not admit any of them…

Haha you know, last year they had a reasonably large number of transfer applicants, and 264/2918 were engineering applicants. And besides, if you’re qualified, then you’ll get in. I’m not feeling excellent. I didn’t get into any good US schools last year because my high school application was not great. It’s much better this year so I’m hoping, but I’m trying so hard to feel OK if I’m rejected. Oh well. We’ll just have to see. Post your decision up here and your stats when you find out!

bump bump bump

engineers! so it kinda sucks that other college divisions of Cornell are giving out the decisions already while our sweet CoE is still taking their “precious” time reviewing our applications…

Hello, engineer applicants.I sent an email to the admissions office asking when we will be notified and they said by May 15th.This is the latest news I got.

wuuuuut…May 15th…not cool.
