Engineering Transfers

Well congrats on your acceptance, wish me luck! BTW a lot of people say Calc 2 is bad but so far it really hasn’t been that hard (it might be my professor) but I’ve actually been doing slightly better in Calc 2 than in Calc 1 (which I got a very solid A in). Anyways maybe we’ll be in the same math at UCSD haha.

also^ @ UChopeful: congrats to you as well maybe ill see you catching up on pre-reqs with me also :D

I’m taking Calc 2 and Physics in the summer and an online C++ class. So in fall, I’ll be taking Calculus 3 and Physics 2, along with Chemistry 6A.

I registered to take Chemistry 6A at UCSD over summer, but $1200 plus the fact that it’s a 4 week class means I’d be committing GPA suicide.

i’m not doing any summer classes, my CC doesn’t really have many options for higher math and science classes (ie. Calc 1 is the highest math you can take over the summer, and no calc based physics classes are offered) and im not ready to move yet haha. So if I get in I’ll be taking Calc 3, Chem 6a and Physics 1 in the fall.

I’ll be caught up! the sad thing is, we’re considered Freshmen on our status page for “academic standing” lol.

It’s like we traveled back in time and managed to get accepted as freshmen again! If all goes to plan, I’ll be at junior status next year, so I’ll jump ahead a year and turn it into a 5 year degree, which is the average for engineering majors anyway.

Thats what worries me :frowning: . The only way I can graduate in three years is to be taking 4 engineering courses a quarter, which some people say is basically academic suicide, and being there for 4 years doesn’t sound super appealing either.

I’m taking phys 2a, phys 2b, math 20c, and math 20e this summer at UCSD. I expect it to be difficult, but I’m prepared to make the sacrifices necessary to get a head-start on my prereqs. I want to be able to graduate in under three years and still be able to do internships the next two summers.

^ ouch, 2 labs during the summer, that will be rough. I’d be willing to take a summer class as I have plenty of time to do so, but my CC doesn’t offer anything useful and I live 500 miles from UCSD and if I get in and decide to go there I wouldn’t be able to go until fall.

There are no labs.

I’m going to do it. It’s only 4 engineering a quarter for maybe 2-3 quarters, and that’s what their academic plan shows. Everyone who goes to UCSD as a freshmen and graduates in four years with engineering, takes four engineering a quarter at least 3-4 quarters. That’s what makes the engineering bachelor’s so difficult.

@ UChopeful:

The physics classes don’t have labs?

The only physics at UCSD with a lab is 2C and the lab is a separate 2 unit course.

Physics 2A & 2B just have lecture and a discussion session on Fridays to work on problems.

For the physics sequence, EE majors are not required to take the lab. This is also the case with Chem 6a.
