Does anybody know the admission rate for engineering majors at UCB?

No foreign language required for 4 year engineering majors. So I’m assuming it’s the same for transfers

Depends on which branch of engineering, but it varies from <20% to about 30%.

Berkeley Engineering is impacted and they’re highly selective.

Good luck to all that applied!

It seems that engineering major does not follow IGETC. ???

I just found out that mechanic engineering admission rate for UCB is 25%.

Anybody here are going for engineering majors as well?

I am!
Berkeley is my dream school.
I’m a civil engineering major.

As of yet, everything is looking up for UCLA, but my heart is up north.

(fingers crossed)

Best Luck to you.

Are you waiting for 2010 admission?

I just changed my major recently, so I’m still doing my research on transfer requirement for school of engineering.

Do we need to take foreign languages? Do we need to finish IGETC? From what I read, it seems that we only need 6 humanities courses including enlgish 1a,1b. then try to finish at least 80% of the lower division courses.

No IGETC, No foreign languages.

I can tell you a good bit. I went up to Cal last summer (I live in LA) and I talked to the Dean at the school of engineering. He explained to me the admissions process and what they look for.

They’re very serious about the 80% rule. The humanities courses can be taken there, but you MUST take English 1a and 1b before transferring (they’re a part of the 80% rule).

A good piece of advice: INTERNSHIP. They really like those. Any experience in the field is preferred over none. And your essay need to reflect your interest and experience in the field. Also, they prefer students who indicate that they want to continue to grad school.

Thank you for the first-hand info!

80% wouldn’t be a problem, as long as we finish all the math and physics courses, they compose almost 80% . And for the courses noted as “not an admission requirement”,does that mean we don’t have to take it before transfer since they are not transfer requirement? Cuz I saw couple engineering classes which are not provided in many cc.

You mentioned about intern in related field? That seems tough. Like what kind of intern exactly are they referring to? I mean if I’m just a community college student, who would hire me to do any of those jobs? Any suggestions?

Anything that says “not an admission requirement” does not count, so don’t worry about that.

As for the internships, you can find one anywhere. In my area we have Boeing, Aerospace, Northrop, Jet Propulsion Laboratories, etc. Those are reputable companies that offer summer internships but I’m pretty sure that it’s past the date to apply.

But anywhere will do.

As an intern you aren’t really going to do anything but be a gofer. It’s kind of cool, though because the big companies pay their interns well.

I couldn’t get an internship, so I tried volunteering. Do ANYTHING to get your foot in the door cuz that makes Berkeley very, very happy.

Boeing, Aerospace, Northrop, JPL???

Seriously,I visited them in my dreams, especially JPL. I know by now I’m not able to even get an intern with them, but maybe in the future, once we are approaching graduation from Berkeley, we might have a chance, hehe.

By the way, volunteering is not bad, I will keep an eye on those.

Right now, I’m doing this tutoring volunteer which seems useless for the major then…
