@bogeyorpar I understand that, though my parents would only pay for HMC, not CMC. To be honest, weather doesn’t really matter to me too much- just went through 4 years at a NE prep school. California’s great, but Cornell’s close to NYC which is where I want to possibly work in the future.
@gearmom Do you think I could, if I wanted, find a job on Wall Street with an engineering degree from Harvey Mudd and my prep school (E/A/D, etc.) connections?
Mudd is an elite school. I don’t see why you couldn’t work on Wall Street. If your chances are 75% at Mudd and only 15% at Cornell because some of the ED bump there will be recruited athletes, I would go with Mudd.
You could always put a bow on it with grad school in NY.
@gearmom I don’t know what my ED chances for Cornell are, but they’re lower than my Mudd chances. Maybe 20-30%? I also don’t know if applying to Mudd ED2 is much worse than ED1, or if they’re essentially the same, save the app deadline and notification.
Cornell ED acceptance rate last year was 25%. Remove the athletes, maybe 20-21%. 52% are What they term “students of color” which includes Asian. Other hooked students are first gens. Are you hooked? Have you interviewed with Cornell?
@gearmom No, I’m not hooked. If anything, I’m anti-hooked since I’m international (Canadian), though not applying for aid. Was close to being a swim recruit but didn’t contact the coach in time. I haven’t received an offer to interview yet.
@gearmom I think my ECs are fine/above average, but my unweighted GPA is unfortunately ~3.65 due to prep school academic rigor. I also had a downward trend in my junior year. I’m not a recruit but would swim for them if admitted.
Your chances unhooked and unrecruited at Cornell for ED are probably less than 10% when recruited athletes and “students of color” ( I hate that phrasing) are pulled out. More precarious because of the GPA. You have to decide your risk tolerance.
@gearmom Totally understand what you’re saying. It’s unfortunate but I may have to withdraw my ED Cornell app and do ED1 at Mudd (not that it’s a bad option by any means). Thanks for all your help, appreciate it.
