Engineering vs. Arts and Sciences

I have not chosen between Engineering and Biological sciences, but I have to apply to one school or the other. How easy is it to transfer from one to the other? The school of arts and sciences opens up many majors, while engineering leaves me with engineering only. What would you recommend?

It is very easy to go from engineering to arts and crafts at Duke. If you have an interest in engineering (enough to write a credible response to the why engineering question on the app) and have very high math and science SAT Math and Science scores (average is > 750) and are willing to work very hard, then I would recommend Pratt.

arts & crafts eh…

i think A and S is cooler.
all the engineering students are nerds (no offense)

It is much easier to go from Pratt to Trinity than the other way around. So, if you have any interest in engineering, I suggest you start there.

My D is a freshman at Duke right now in Pratt. She wants to do something math-related but isn’t completely sure about engineering. This semester she is taking an engineering math class, chemistry and two focus classes that aren’t directly related to engineering. She is joining a variety of clubs and organizations including literary magazine and DJ at the college radio station. My D selected Duke because she could be in engineering but still be able to study a variety of subjects, take a foreign language, do study abroad, etc. Also the engineering department seems very friendly and assigned my D several mentors and older students to help with the transition. I realize my D has only been there a few weeks but so far she is very happy with being in engineering.

Good to hear :)
