engineering vs. business

which program is stronger at umd?

I am interested in bioengineering/mechanical in particular

this would be very helpful, thanks!

They’re both very strong. Though, the point should be how you make use of them, not how strong they are.

I believe they’re about equally strong. I think our engineering school is #18 in the nation and business is about the same. They’re even higher if you look at only public schools. And specific programs (MIS being one of them, in the business school) can be even higher.

The business school is nicer.

If you’re really interested in both business and engineering (bioe! ) then I say go into the engineering school and then do this program called QUEST which integrates both. I feel like the engineering school is harder to get into and it just makes sense to go there first.

Both are pretty good programs in terms of academics and competitiveness. But, if you go to engineering, be prepared for doing a lot of work. That goes without saying if you compare engineering v business. However, your ultimate decision should be made by considering what would you do with your degree? I definitely agree with Engineering +QUEST route as it gives you a flavor of both engineering+business, if you are prepared to handle the workload.

you should look at rankings for the specific majors. us news & world report has rankings by major for undergrad business AND engineering. QUEST seems like such a cool program…I’m currently business undecided and I’m applying to it for next fall!
