engineering workload...

Honestly, can you be in the engineering school and not do insane amounts of work? Can you still have a social life? (and i don't mean just on weekends) Can you do well in the school without being a genius/ extremely passionate about engineering?

Few engineers enter Cornell with genius ability. Almost all have to work hard, and spend a lot of time at it. How well you do often comes down to how well you can organize your time, not just your intelligence. You certainly can have a social life, but how much time you devote to it may detract from your studies. Most engineers I know do have a decent social life, and manage to get their work done.

Also, few people coming in know exactly what they want to get out of engineering. I was undecided for most of freshman year. Your passion for the subject grows on you as your studies continue, so don't be worried if you don't have a specific calling yet.

I'm an engineer and I have plenty of time for a social life. First semester I went out and partied 3 times a week religiously. I had times to go to club meetings and do activities with clubs and groups. And I got a 3.86 all while having a lot more fun and doing what I thought was less work than i did in high school. This semester I'm busy pledging a fraternity, but I still get 8 hours of sleep a night and have never had to turn down a party to do work. Yeah sometimes its nerve-wracking, and before anyone calls me a simpleton, yes, I do realize that it's only freshman year. Things get harder after freshman year. Much so, from what I hear. But people deal with it. Cornell is a work hard, play hard atmosphere. Sophomore year is the hardest year for engineers, but you never hear about people being locked in their rooms or stuck in the libraries. It's just all about time management and work ethic. As for being a genius, i dont think its required. I think you need to be passionate to some extent or you will probably end up transferring to the hotel school or something. I mean, you have to like the subject to study it for 4 years.

perro- wat major/concentration are you going into in Engineering??

Mechanical/Aerospace

3.8 isnt that like 95% rougly? thats insanely amazing!! i didnt even think that was p[osible, lol

A+ = 4.3 so that may have something to do with it, though getting A+ in non-engineering classes is probably as tough as getting A/A- in engineering classes.
