I am interested in an engineering major and have been admitted to both Yale and Ann Arbor with full aid. Now I am not sure where to go. While Ann Arbor has such a famous engineering program, Yale has a lot it's own advantages....
Please give your suggestions.

If you are 100% sure you want to study engineering, definitely go to Michigan. Yale engineering is nowhere as good.

on the other hand, yale has spent tons of resources trying to improve their engineering program. at this point, they have nearly a 1:1 student faculty ratio, and i've heard from a yale student that in engin classes with only one student, you can essentially have a private tutor for an entire semester.

what about placements and co-op at both

For engineering, I would definitely go to Michigan.

Um no way. DEFINITELY go to Yale. UMich is a great school but it's Yale we're talking about here. You will have personal access to a lot of world-class faculty and resources since their program is so strong. Also, you will interact with the most amazing kids in the world and you will learn so much from you. The residential college experience at Yale is amazing and instead of being cooped up with engineer like at UM, you will reside with people of all kinds of interests/talents and that will increase the breadth of your learning.

I mean there's some incentive for going to Yale, but "DEFINITELY"? You gotta be kidding me.

For one thing, Michigan does have a world-class faculty and definitely has a world-class facility (come on, Michigan has an "engineering campus"). Yale can try, but they can't build all the facilities that Michigan have in a matter of 4 years or even more.

One thing that puts Michigan a whole level above Yale is the fact that it has a strong history of engineering excellence. As much as people would respect Yale for Law or such, we get that respect with engineering (and many other fields).

1:1 learning with a professor definitely sounds nice, but that's not how you learn engineering. You have to work in groups learn how to collaborate, because thats what you do in real life.

And Michigan definitely has amazing kids to hang around with. Most engineering kids don't live like nerds, or so to speak. Doesn't mean that they're not smart either. We study hard and play hard(er? heheh). And the large student population definitely allows you to have friends of different interests and talents.

And you can't forget about school spirit and football. It becomes really fun.

To sum it all up, Yale's a good school and all, but falls behind in engineering. As said, theres only so few student studying engineering at Yale. Because Michigan's engineering program is bigger, you get a better chance to experience things first-hand.
