This is probobly a dumb question as i really dont know much about northwestern but i was wondering how strong their engineering school is. ive heard by word of mouth that its 'good' but does anyone have any facts that attest to that? thanks

More than just "good". Among the privates, only MIT, Stanford, Georgia Tech are better than Northwestern. Overall, it's about the same as Cornell, Carniegie Mellon (CMU got much better computer/electrical but most others aren't as highly ranked), and Johns Hopkins. Below are the US News 2006 ranking:

Material Science-2nd
Industrial and Management Sciences-4th
Civil-8th
Mechanical-10th
Biomedical-12th
Chemical-12th
Applied Math-14th
Environmental-15th
Computer&Electrical-28th

thats really great to hear as i've been debating whether or not to apply to nu. thanks a lot sam, youve been a great help!
