I know Washington has an amazing reputation and that engineering by sheer nature is very intense. Also while I visited Washington they said that the school tries to help the students as much as possible. However if there are any current or previous engineering students how is the transition to the courses and how intense are the entry level classes?

I graduated in 04, bme... what kind of engineering are you interested in? (bme is kinda different, because we have to take premed courses)
I didn't really have a problem transitioning into the freshman level engineering courses. If you've taken honors/ap physics, calc, etc, the intro physics/chem/calc courses shouldn't be too big of a step. The first few engineering courses I took were sophomore year, so I was already adjusted to the style of college courses - but in general the professors were very helpful.

The biggest adjustment for most people was getting used to course grades being based on only a couple exams and a final. Most engineering courses assign problem sets/labs... the workload can be pretty high sometimes, but the professors and TAs are pretty available and helpful, and if you stay on top of things, it's definitely doable. I wouldn't say any of my entry level courses were intense (except maybe the premed ones).

um, i want to major in chemical engineer which someone recently told me is one of the hardest types there is, but i genuinly love math and science and have been involved in engineering organizations since freshman year. i'm not afraid of hard work or anything its just that i don't want to be overwhelmed with so much changing and classes etc.
