Hello everybody. I am a current senior in high school who was accepted to UCI as a bio major.
However, I really want to switch into engineering (biomedical or mechanical) and was wondering how the process works. Can anyone please explain it to me? Should I make an appointment with an engineering counslor? Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

You could request a major change on the MyAdmissions UCI site. However, my friend tried switching it to biomedical AND mechanical but they denied her of that major BOTH times because it was impacted/competitive. They told her that she would have to talk to the academic counselors during SPOP.

I find your friend very amusing that she is trying to major both Biomed and Mech before entering college. Choose one that is more interesting. Trying to get one enineering degree is enough already.

No, I meant she tried to change it to biomedical first and then they denied her. Then, she tried to change it to mech and then they denied her again.

First, try to change your major using the MyAdmissions site. If that does not work, make an appointment with a counselor asap to begin planning a pathway into switching. As long as you get into your core classes (math/physics/chem) you’ll be fine. The best way to understand things is to read the UCI catalogue.
